Dallas County, Texas - property tax protests

A look at protest numbers for Single Family Residences

Though Dallas city is an important commercial hub, single family residences form the largest property class in Dallas County. Property tax protest activity in Dallas county appears subdued. Nonetheless, here are our findings regarding the protest scene for SFRs.

Observations:

  • Number of protests filed show a steady growth by the years.
  • Homeowners appear to be getting increasingly aware of their right to protest.
  • DIY protests i.e., homeowners filing protests themselves, also seems to be rising.

Let's look at the median reductions obtained:

  • Median reductions obtained by DIY protests shows a steady upward trend!

Let's look at the hearings:

  • An increasing number of homeowner protests are being resolved at informal hearings. They don't have to go ARB!
  • This is a win-win for both homeowners and the county.
